Book the First SessionThis follows Mary K. Greer's original method, the accepted standard among tarot readers. Your day, month, and full year of birth are added together as whole numbers. The digits of that total are then summed, again if the result is above 22, until they land on a major arcana number between 1 and 22. That number is your personality card: how you move through the world.
Summing its digits once more gives your soul card: the lesson underneath. If the total reduces straight to a single digit, one card carries both roles. A birth number of 19 unfolds into three cards, the Sun, the Wheel, and the Magician, the only trio in the deck. And 22 belongs to the Fool, whose soul card is the Emperor.
Example: 13 April 1975 becomes 13 + 4 + 1975 = 1992. Then 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21, the World, the personality card. And 2 + 1 = 3, the Empress, the soul card.
A note for the curious: some popular calculators split the year into pairs before adding, which can shift the personality card for certain dates. Pure Omen follows Greer's own arithmetic as she teaches it.
